Prep & Care

Tattoo Removal Pre Care instructions:

Non-laser tattoo removal involves using a specialized solution to break down the ink particles in the skin, allowing them to be naturally eliminated by the body. Pre-care instructions are important to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the removal process. During your appointment, your PMU artist will have a consultation with you to discuss your medical history, skin type, and expectations for the removal process.

Here are the instructions to prepare for your appointment:

2 weeks before:

  1. No Botox, or any Filler, and no Facials.

Avoid Sun Exposure:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure to the tattooed area for at least two weeks prior to the removal session. Sunburned or tanned skin can be more sensitive and may increase the risk of complications during the removal process.

Moisturize Your Skin:

  • Keep the skin in the tattooed area well-moisturized leading up to the removal session. Hydrated skin can improve the effectiveness of the removal process and aid in the healing process afterward.

Avoid Certain Skincare Products:

  • Discontinue the use of skincare products containing retinoids (e.g., Retin-A, Tretinoin), alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), or other exfoliating ingredients on or near the tattooed area for at least one week before the removal session. These ingredients can increase skin sensitivity and may interfere with the removal process.

Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine 24hrs before:

  • Minimize alcohol consumption and avoid caffeine on the day of the removal session, as they can increase sensitivity and contribute to discomfort during the procedure.

Post care instructions for Tattoo Removal:

*Depending on your treatment of removal, downtime varies between Angel Removal and Alkaline removal.

Angel Removal

Angel Removal is the most gentle approach to removal, however, multiple sessions may be needed depending on the old pigment. This technique will lift anywhere from 10-15% of the pigment per session. A gentle point injection method with Minimal pain, scabbing and only 24 hours downtime before you can go back to a normal routine.

Day 1: Keep the area dry for 24 hours, blot with a dry cotton pad if necessary. You may experience some redness and swelling from up to 48 hours.

Day 2-7: You can resume your normal routine. You will experience some dryness in the area and light peeling for 3-5 days.  We will provide an after care kit with an overnight serum that must be applied on clean skin overnight and washed off in the morning.

The brows can take 4-6 weeks to show the finished results.  It can take 2-3 sessions to see vast results as sometimes after 1 session, pigment can appear darker as it’s rising to the surface of the skin.

Alkaline Removal

Alkaline removal is a more aggressive approach that can lift up to 50% of the pigment. The downtime is longer, roughly up to 2 weeks for all the scabbing to fall off, and if multiple treatments are needed, there needs to be 12 weeks apart before scheduling your next removal session.

Day 1: The treated area will appear whitish from the residue of the alkaline solution left on the skin for it to continue attracting to the pigment molecules and remove them from the skin.  You will feel tenderness and swelling for 24-48 hours, similar to a chemical peel or blister.

Days 1-14:  It is very important to keep the area completely dry for the first two weeks or until the scabs all fall off.  If the area gets slightly wet in the shower, make sure to pat dry after but try not to submerge the area in water.

Days 14+: After the scabs have fallen off naturally, resist the urge to scratch, pick or peel the skin.  The skin may appear pinkish/red as the skin is regenerating but it will subside over the course of 8-12 weeks.

It is recommended to apply vitamin C and E liquid gel capsules to the treated area to help aid the skin healing and regeneration.

Possible side effects:

  • Hair loss in the treated area when the scab peels
  • Redness of the skin when the scabbing is complete
  • Temporary tenderness and swelling in the treated area for the first 24-48 hours
  • Mild burning sensation of the treated area for the first 24-48 hours
